The Latest on the TPC Plant Explosion in Port Neches, TX
A petrochemical plant in Port Neches, Texas owned by TPC Group, Inc. exploded at 1 a.m. Wednesday, November 27. The blast startled thousands of nearby residents and injured several people. A second explosion followed later on in the afternoon. The plant explosions threw thousands of pounds of toxic pollutants into the air, resulting in multiple evacuation orders.
The last fire at the TPC Group plant explosion site was extinguished on Tuesday, December 3rd. The chemicals TPC uses in its processing have low boiling points, making it possible they could have vaporized and re-ignited. Fear of further explosions prompted the county to evacuate as many as 60,000 nearby residents from their homes. They were eventually allowed to return to their homes.
The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, an independent federal agency known for its detailed root-cause analysis reports after industrial incidents, announced that it will deploy crews to the Port Neches plant explosion area. They will be reviewing TPC’s compliance with state regulations in the wake of the explosion.
The petrochemical maker TPC Group, Inc. plans to rebuild the Texas plant, which was shut down as fires burned for six days. However, many victims are still seeking answers as they deal with the unwanted burdens that the incident has caused.
